William Selwyn was born in Caernarfon in 1933, and continues to live there today. In 1954, after completing national service in the Royal Artillery, he studied at Bangor College, until 1956. He went into teaching, and held art positions at Syr Hugh Owen School and Maeincla Junior School until his retirement in 1990. Since then, Selwyn has devoted himself to painting full-time.
